The following letter was submitted by the Calvert County Fraternal Order of Police:

Dear Friends,


We are excited to announce that the Calvert County Fraternal Order of Police and the Calvert County Optimist Clubs are sponsoring the SHOP WITH A COP program.  Local families experiencing economic hardships can’t always provide their children with their own celebration of Christmas.  The SHOP WITH A COP program joins these underprivileged children with local police officers, providing the children with money to shop for Christmas presents for their families and themselves.

The program will take place on Saturday, Dec.13,  at the Prince Frederick Walmart and includes:

  Participating officers will pick up the children at their homes and transport them to Walmart where they will be met by members of Calvert County Optimist Clubs for their shopping experience.  The children will each have a $100 allowance for shopping, along with a 10% discount provided by Walmart.

2. The group will meet for breakfast and gift wrapping at Outback Steakhouse in Prince Frederick.  The officers will then return the children to their homes following the day’s activities.

Contributions to this worthy cause will be greatly appreciated.  Our goal for 2008 is to provide 60 children and their families with a memorable holiday experience.
