Hundreds of marchers gathered Saturday morning on the parking lot of St. Maryโs Square in Lexington Park to take part in the โ500 Soul Marchโ that was part of โWar Cry 2013.โ The event was organized by Pastor Michael Barber of Dominion Apostolic to give โunity in our communities.โ Barber said โIt will unite in one voice and one sound for the betterment of not only our community but each person.โ
Before the march Barber asked the participants to identify which churches they represented, and the response indicated a broad representation from churches around the community. He then asked those ready to march to turn in the four quadrants to disperse their positive energy to the entire St. Maryโs County area.
After war cries and jumps for joy ministers from several churches grabbed wooden crosses and ted the marchers down Great Mills Road on the sidewalk. The march stopped at several locations, including McKayโs Plaza before winding up at George Washington Carver Elementary School. At the stops the marchers were energized by prayer and praise.
After the march, the event reassembled at St. Maryโs Square for a gospel concert featuring โthe Briscoe Brothers,โ โPosse4Christโ and โSimply Glory.โ The Bay District Volunteer Fire Department was also on hand for a demonstration of a rescue effort from a mock gruesome accident with a car turned on its side.
A number of vendors were on hand, including the Maryland National Guard and Job Source. Food was available for sale.
On the two days prior to the march there were special War Cry services at Lexington Park Baptist Church led by Pastor Dante King of Great Mt. Zion of Prince Frederick and by Pastor Barber.
Pastor Baber, in material sent out to publicize the event, said he has โa vision to take back the community and unite everyone for one cause and one purpose.โ Dominion Apostolic is a 200-plus congregation which held its first service in September of 2011 at LaQuinta Hotel and now meets in a middle school auditorium. It hopes to move soon in to a building in St. Maryโs Square.
