Curtains is a musical comedy based on the book by Rupert Holmes, with music by John Kander; Lyrics by Fred Ebb. The play is set in Boston back in 1959. Lieutenant Frank Cioffi of the Boston Police Department is called in to solve the homicide of egotistical and completely untalented leading lady, Jessica Cranshaw who is murdered during the opening night curtain call of โ€œRobbin’ Hood of the Old Westโ€. The entire cast and crew of Robbinโ€™ Hood are present when Jessica is murdered, are suspects and remain sequestered inside the theater while Lt. Cioffi conducts his police investigation.

The primary suspects include the tough-as-nails lady producer, Carmen Bernstein; her husband, philanderer Sidney; the show’s ostentatious director, Christopher Belling; divorced songwriting team Aaron Fox and Georgia Hendricks; Stage Manager Jenny Harmon; choreographer/leading man Bobby Pepper, the sweet and authentic Niki Harris, and ambitious young actress Bambi Bernรฉt.

Hutingtown High Schoolโ€™s student cast and crew is responsible for all aspects of the play. With the guidance of their teacher/director Derek Anderson, the students act, sing, dance, designed and built the set, sew the costumes, and worked the sound and lighting throughout production.

In addition to the student lead characters, there are seventy chorus members and twenty musicians providing all of the music in the orchestra pit. All in all there are over one hundred students running the show. The play would not be possible without the numerous parent and facility volunteers who guide these very talented students.

With โ€œSnow-Mageddonโ€ causing the students to miss several days of school, they had to work extra hard and volunteer long hours in the evenings and on the weekend to make their production a reality.
