The Charles County Sheriffโs Office has determined that an armed carjacking that occurred earlier this year was falsely reported.
On Jan. 22 at 10:07 p.m., Thomas Jerome Hobbs, 20, and Melvin Donald Cutchember, 20, both of Waldorf reported they had parked on Jubilee Way in Waldorf after experiencing mechanical problems with their vehicle.
While they were outside of their vehicle, Hobbs and Cutchember reported a male suspect approached them, brandished a handgun and stole the vehicle.
Insurance fraud and police investigators evaluated their information and determined the incident had been falsely reported.
On April 24, Hobbs and Cutchember were charged with providing a false statement to a police officer. Detective J. Elliott investigated.
