The Maryland State Fire Marshalโs Office is investigating a fire Sunday afternoon that caused damage to the pavilion at St. Clementโs Shores Park in Compton. Damage to the park pavilion on Meadow Lane is estimated at $500.
According to Deputy State Fire Marshal Melissa Bean, โThe incendiary fire was started by unknown suspect(s) igniting combustible items in the pavilion. Three male subjects were seen running from the scene when it was discovered. The investigation is continuing.โ
It took 15 firefighters from the Leonardtown, Hollywood, Mechanicsville and Seventh District volunteer fire departments just two minutes to bring the fire under control. There does not appear to be any structural damage to the metal pavilion.
The facility is owned by St. Maryโs County Government.
The fire was discovered by a passerby and reported at 5:35 p.m.
Anyone with information is asked to contact the Maryland State Fire Marshalโs Southern Region Office at 443-550-6820.
