When November rolls around, we have a day dedicated to giving thanks. We have two days for getting deals, Black Friday and Cyber Monday. Now, we have Giving Tuesday, a global day dedicated to giving back. On Tuesday, December 1, 2015, charities, families, businesses, community centers, and students around the world will come together for one common purpose: to celebrate generosity and to give.

Itโ€™s a simple idea. Just find a way for your family, your community, your company or your organization to come together to give something more. Then tell everyone you can about how you are giving. Be a part of a global celebration of a new tradition of generosity!

Locally, Southern Maryland Gives is celebrating Giving Tuesday in a big way. They firmly believe that strong nonprofits equal strong communities. Donating online via Southern Maryland Gives helps organizations focus on providing services and meeting critical needs in our area.

Several local charities are listed on their site, including Cots for Safe Nights, an organization that gives cots to shelters that host individuals and families from October through mid-April. The cots used are transported as the hosting shelter changes, and many become damaged and are no longer able to be used. Donating to Cots for Safe Nights helps to provide more durable cots, along with a fulfilled budget to continue providing as the months go on.

Become a hometown hero; donate locally this Giving Tuesday to a charity at Southern Maryland Gives. For more information on their mission, the charities, and what you can do to help, visit their website atย https://southernmarylandgives.razoo.com/
