
Jay Hue Long, 85, of Waldorf, Maryland, passed away peacefully on May 10, 2026, surrounded by his loving family.
Born on May 15, 1940, in Konawa, Oklahoma, Jay was the son of Homer and Bernice Long.
Jay proudly served his country in the United States Air Force for 30 years. In a decorated career as an airborne radio operator, his dedication, skill, and professionalism took him around the globe, achieving the rank of Chief Master Sergeant.
For his final assignment, he served with the 89th Special Air Mission at Andrews Air Force Base, Maryland, where he provided radio and satellite communications support during flights carrying members of Congress, Cabinet officials, and other senior leaders of the United States government. It was a responsibility and experience he remembered with great pride.
After retiring from the military, he continued his public service with the Bureau of the Public Debt, where he worked for 14 years before retiring a second time.
In retirement, Jay enjoyed flying radio-controlled airplanes, growing tomatoes, and the camaraderie he found at the VFW. He had a keen interest in the lives of his grandchildren and loved sharing the stories of his life with them.
Jay was a devoted father and will be remembered for his generosity, deep sense of duty, and love for his family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Dianna Lynn Long; his former wife, Gail Long, the mother of his daughters; and his beloved companion, Anna Osborne.
He is survived by his daughters, Tonya Flynn and her husband, Roger, and Nikki Lincoln and her husband, Andy; his grandchildren, Lauren, Katlyn, Colin, Margaret, Chelsey, Brayden, Jessica, Noah, and Lianna; his great-grandchildren, Alys, Ori, and Olin; Annaโs children, Don Osborne (Nancy), David Osborne (Cathy), and Laura Swick (the late Mark); Annaโs grandchildren, Jessica and Sarah; extended family members and friends who will cherish his memory.
Jayโs cremated remains will be laid to rest with military honors at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.
He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew him.
