Annapolis, MD – Midfielder Michael Kimmel was named Major League Lacrosseโ€™s (MLL) Offensive Player of the Week for Week 2 of the 2011 Season. Kimmel currently ranks third in the league with 9 points in 2 games.
ย
Kimmel, a second-year player out of Johns Hopkins, totaled six points on four goals and two assists as the Chesapeake Bayhawks beat the Nationals, 14-10, on Thursday, May 19th at Ron Joyce Stadium in Hamilton, Ontario. Kimmelโ€™s performance earned him the Bud Light Most Valuable Player of the game.
ย
“I am honored to be named Offensive Player of the Week,โ€ Kimmel stated.ย  โ€œI cannot give enough credit to my offensive line mates. They demand so much attention from the opposing defense that it opens up room for me.”
ย
โ€œMichael is quickly proving why he was the #2 pick in the collegiate draft in 2010,โ€ general manager Spencer Ford said.ย  โ€œHe plays both ends of the field as well as anyone we have ever seen. Itโ€™s not often you can turn to a player and ask him to score 6 points and play the oppositionโ€™s best midfielder. Michael thrives off of it and that showed this past Thursday against Hamilton. He is a great teammate, and we are thrilled to have him.โ€
