Eli Young Band at Chesapeake Beach Resort and Spa, Labor Day 2017
Chesapeake Beach, MD – Labor Day meant putting a wrap on the 2017 season of Rock the Dock at Chesapeake Beach Resort and Spa. From all appearances it proved to be a classic curtain call for the outdoor shows underneath the band shell by the bay. A show headlined by the country rock group Eli Young Band drew a sizeable crowd Monday, Sept. 4 and the weather was almost perfect.

The members of the band—guitarists Mike Eli, James Young and Jon Jones; and drummer Chris Thompson—met about 20 years ago while students at the University of North Texas. Their post-graduate work reads like the Great American Dream—three number one songs on the Country Music charts, including  “Crazy Girl“ the 2012 dark horse winner of the Academy of Country Music’s “Song of the Year.” The other two number ones are “Even If It Breaks Your Heart” and “Drunk Last Night.”

The band performed songs from their latest album, “Fingerprints,” including “Saltwater Gospel” and “Skin and Bones.” During the performance Eli thanked the mostly Maryland audience for its outpouring of support for the victims of Hurricane Harvey.
Opening for Eli Young Band were local music favorite John Luskey and JD and the Straight Shot.

While their outdoor music season has ended, Chesapeake Beach Resort and Spa has plenty of indoor entertainment planned in the coming weeks. On Sept. 20 the Rod ‘N’ Reel Restaurant presents “Spaghetti and Sinatra” from 6 to 9 p.m. The evening combines “Rat-Pack style music and entertainment” by the versatile Joe Martone along with Italian dinner specials.
