somd fire

WALDORF, Md. — Firefighters are working to contain a large brush fire that erupted in Waldorf on Wednesday afternoon, affecting an estimated 4 to 5 acres in the vicinity of Slater Drive and Poplar Hill Road.

The fire, reported around 2:30 p.m., has prompted a significant emergency response, with personnel from four surrounding counties deployed to the area. As flames continued to spread across the wooded terrain, fire crews called in specialized forestry units, including a dozer team, to assist with containment efforts.

To gain a clearer assessment of the blaze’s scope, Maryland State Police requested aerial support from Trooper 2, which is currently en route to conduct an aerial survey and help coordinate ground operations.

Local authorities have not reported any injuries or structural damage so far, but with shifting winds and dry conditions, crews remain on high alert. Firefighters are expected to remain on the scene through the evening as they work to establish fire lines and prevent further spread.

The cause of the fire is not yet known, and officials are urging residents to avoid the area.

Updates will be provided as new information becomes available.
