SOLOMONS, Md. — A Leonardtown man is facing three misdemeanor charges following an overnight traffic stop in Solomons, where deputies say he swiped at a deputy’s Taser while refusing orders to exit the vehicle.
According to court records filed in Calvert County District Court, Christian Taylor Chism, 34, was a passenger during a traffic stop in the parking lot of the 7-Eleven on HG Trueman Road around 1:40 a.m. on April 26, 2025. Deputies had initiated the stop to evaluate whether the driver was under the influence of alcohol.
While one deputy questioned the driver outside the vehicle, another began speaking with the passengers. During that exchange, Chism reportedly grew irritated and asked why so many questions were being asked. According to the deputy, Chism appeared increasingly agitated and attempted to grab the deputy’s department-issued Taser through the open window.
Deputies say Chism was ordered out of the vehicle but refused and had to be pulled from the car and brought to the ground. He then allegedly resisted being placed in handcuffs, repeatedly pulling his arms away and grabbing at the deputy’s hands. Deputies say they had to physically redirect Chism’s face with an open palm while attempting to secure him in the patrol vehicle.
Chism was transported to the Calvert County Detention Center and charged with second-degree assault, obstruction and hindering, and resisting arrest. Each charge is classified as a misdemeanor. The assault charge carries a maximum sentence of 10 years in jail and a $2,500 fine. The obstruction and resisting arrest charges each carry a maximum penalty of three years in jail and fines up to $5,000.
Chism was released on a $3,000 unsecured personal bond. A court date is scheduled for May 29 in Calvert County District Court.
