LEXINGTON PARK, Md. — A Leonardtown woman was charged with drug possession after Maryland State Police reported finding suspected cocaine during an assault investigation in Lexington Park.

Shyann Aniqua Haley, 34, of Leonardtown, was charged with possession of a controlled dangerous substance, not cannabis, and possession of drug paraphernalia following the June 20, 2026, incident.

According to charging documents, Maryland State Police troopers responded around 5:39 p.m. to the 21700 block of Great Mills Road in Lexington Park for an assault investigation.

The complainant reported that she was outside The Dollar Tree at 21800 North Shangri-La Drive when Haley allegedly grabbed her shoulders and stated she was going to kill her, according to charging documents.

Charging documents state the complainant left the scene and returned to her residence, where Haley allegedly followed her home and banged on the common door of the residence. The complainant denied any injuries from the alleged assault.

Before troopers arrived, Haley had left the location. A description was broadcast, and a trooper later located Haley near the intersection of Great Mills Road and Shangri-La Drive, according to charging documents.

While the trooper was contacting Haley, she began removing items from her person and allegedly removed a clear plastic baggie containing a white powder substance.

Charging documents state Haley was detained, and based on training and experience, a trooper identified the substance as suspected cocaine.

After being advised of her rights, Haley allegedly told troopers she had no recollection of the assault, did not know who the victim was and was too intoxicated to remember what happened, according to charging documents.

Troopers reported a strong odor of alcohol on Haley, along with glassy eyes and slow, slurred speech.

When asked about the white powder in the plastic baggie, Haley allegedly stated it must be cocaine because that was the only drug she used, according to charging documents.

Haley was arrested and transported to the St. Mary’s County Detention Center.

Court records show Haley was released on recognizance June 21.

A trial is set for Aug. 6 in St. Mary’s County District Court.
