Leonardtownโs First Friday celebration, August 6, brought many out to enjoy the festivities on and around the square.ย Many bought or brought their copy of Dishing Up Maryland and had it signed by author Lucie L. Snodgrass. Chef Loic Jaffres of Cafรฉ Des Artistes teamed up with Richard Pelz of Circle C Oyster Ranch for a dish featured in the book and offered samples along with Ridge Market Chef Robert Chanโs Chinese cuisine for free.
Businesses and restaurants were buzzing, offeringย great specials, samples and friendly service. Fortuneโs Turn provided live music for the crowd and was later joined on stage by Gov. Martin OโMalley, who performed two tunes with them.
OโMalley announced Mary Cox as the winning ticket-holder for a great prize package including a Mennonite-crafted leather portmanteau filled with wine and gifts, Courtesy of Leonardtown Business Association, St. Maryโs County Tourism, and Commissioners of Leonardtown.
Many businesses like Big Larryโs Comic Book Cafรฉ were busy late into the evening. One young lady told TheBAYNET.com it was her first visit to a Leonardtown First Friday event, but she planned to come more often in the future.
Gov. OโMalley stopped by the Front Porch and visited Fenwick Street stores before telling the crowd gathered on the square, โGod Bless St. Maryโs, God Bless Leonardtown and God Bless our troops.โ
