LEONARDTOWN, Md. — A Lexington Park man is facing charges after authorities say he attempted to conceal contraband and tamper with a drug test while inside the St. Mary’s County Detention and Rehabilitation Center, according to court records.
David Lee Anderson, 31, of Lexington Park, was arrested April 20, 2026, following an incident at the detention center in Leonardtown.
According to the statement of probable cause, Anderson arrived at the detention center for a urinalysis as part of a pretrial agreement when staff observed suspicious behavior.
Authorities reported that while being escorted to a body scan room, Anderson was seen attempting to shake something out of his shorts. Deputies observed a condom fall from his clothing, which was later found to contain suspected urine.
Investigators said the item was consistent with an attempt to alter the outcome of a drug screening by using another person’s bodily fluid.
The incident occurred inside a secure facility, leading to an additional charge related to possessing contraband in a place of confinement.
Anderson is charged with possession of contraband in a place of confinement and attempting to alter a drug or alcohol test.
Court records show he was initially held without bond following his arrest. A bail review hearing was held April 22, 2026, before Judge James Tanavage in St. Mary’s District Court.
Under Maryland law, possession of contraband in a place of confinement carries a maximum penalty of up to three years in prison and a fine of up to $1,000. Attempting to alter a drug or alcohol test carries a potential penalty of up to one year in jail and a fine of up to $1,000.
A hearing is set for June 1, 2026, in St. Mary’s District Court.
