ย The work of many Lexington Park volunteers resulted in 17 children and their parents being treated to a special Christmas event this weekend, which has hopes toย become an annual occurrence.

ย The Lexington Park Volunteer Rescue Squad on Friday hosted a visit from Santa, and a group of local children were treated to a pizza party, cookies, a moon bounce, presents and more. Rickโ€™s Cheesesteak Factory and One Big Party, two local companies, helped out.

ย Paul Tolson, public information officer for the Rescue Squad, said the children were hand-chosen kids โ€œthat could use a better Christmas.โ€

ย The Lexington Park Association, an auxiliary unit that supports both the Squad and Bay District Volunteer Fire Department, played a big part in pulling off the event.

ย The California VFW Post 2632 treated parents to a free raffle door prize, and three dinners were awarded.

ย Local fire and rescue volunteers donated gift and money for the children, and Tolsen said one particular Lexington Park Association member provided all the toys for the girls.

ย Each child received a gift and a $20 Wal Mart gift card.

ย โ€œIt was a big effort and it really turned out well,โ€ Tolson said. โ€œEverybody is looking forward to next year.โ€
