LEXINGTON PARK, Md. — A Lexington Park woman is facing a felony assault charge after investigators reviewed video that appeared to show a vehicle striking people during a fight near Franklin Road and Saratoga Drive.
Shayonna Renee Miles, 24, of Lexington Park, was arrested after the May 16, 2026, incident and charged in St. Mary’s District Court.
According to charging documents, deputies responded around 9:09 p.m. to the area of Franklin Road and Saratoga Drive in Lexington Park for a reported fight involving shots fired. During the investigation, police made contact with Miles, who was driving a 2016 Hyundai Sonata.
The front passenger side of the Sonata had a flat tire and visible hood damage consistent with being shot, charging documents state. Video surveillance from the area captured the incident.
Investigators wrote that the video showed Miles’ vehicle entering Franklin Road, where the occupants made contact with a large group of people in the roadway. A fight then appeared to break out involving several people in the street and the occupants of the Sonata.
After the driver and passenger got back into the vehicle, the driver attempted to run people over near Franklin Road and Louden Lane, according to charging documents. The Sonata appeared to strike several people, then turned into the driveway of a nearby Franklin Road residence and attempted to strike additional people standing there.
After the vehicle entered the driveway and struck people a second time, six gunshots could be heard on video, causing the visible damage to the Sonata described by investigators.
Investigators noted that after the physical fight, Franklin Road appeared clear enough for the Sonata to leave the area without striking anyone. Charging documents state there was no reason, other than to run people over, for the vehicle to turn into the driveway where several people were standing.
During an interview, Miles reported she had gone to Franklin Road to confront a female who had fought her younger sister earlier that evening. She reported that she and her passenger were assaulted inside the Sonata and later got out of the vehicle, where they were assaulted by several people.
Miles later admitted she attempted to run people over in the street, according to charging documents.
One person who was struck reported the Sonata hit him and knocked him onto the hood. He had visible injuries to his left arm and both legs, according to charging documents.
Miles is charged with first-degree assault, second-degree assault and reckless endangerment.
Court records show Miles was initially held without bond on May 17, 2026. Judge Karen Christy Holt Chesser later presided over a bail review hearing on May 18, 2026, and Miles was released on recognizance.
A preliminary hearing is scheduled for June 18, 2026, in St. Mary’s District Court.
Under Maryland law, first-degree assault carries up to 25 years in prison. Second-degree assault carries up to 10 years in prison and/or a $2,500 fine, while reckless endangerment carries up to five years in prison and/or a $5,000 fine.
