There is an exciting project afoot by the St. Clement’s Hundred organization to rebuild the lighthouse on St. Clement’s Island. As they are getting funding in place – including a state bond bill granted this year, and matching funds – the project is moving forward with a groundbreaking scheduled for Saturday, July 22 at 3 p.m. ON the island. The project was approved by the Maryland Historical Trust and the Critical Areas Commission.
State and County officials have all been invited to participate and the public is also invited to attend. There will be FREE boat transportation to the island from the pier at the St. Clement’s Island Museum in Colton’s Point. The museum is also offering its annual Black-Eyed Susan Day beginning at 11 a.m. with free water taxi transportation to the island to view the 4,000 plus Black-Eyed Susan plants in full bloom as they surround the 40-foot cross that commemorates the arrival of Maryland’s first citizens in 1634.
