Linda L. Kelley Shelter Waives All Animal Adoption Fees For August

PRINCE FREDERICK, Md. — Calvert County’s Linda L. Kelley Animal Shelter hopes to “clear the shelters” this August.

From Aug. 1 to Aug. 29, the shelter will waive adoption fees for all adoptable animals, including dogs, cats, rabbits, roosters, guinea pigs, hamsters, pigs and more. Even without the adoption fees, all animals will be spayed or neutered and receive veterinary care before going home with their new families.

The shelter has been actively sharing the photos and stories of adoptable animals on its Facebook page since the beginning of the month, and Board of County Commissioners (BOCC) President Todd Ireland announced the campaign at the beginning of the Aug. 4 BOCC meeting.

Additionally, the shelter shared on Facebook that, due to capacity issues, it will operate by appointment only through Aug. 8. Staff will continue accepting emergency cases and stray animal intakes during this time. The shelter will continue offering adoptions during this period, and those interested in adopting are encouraged to schedule an appointment. The best way to make an appointment is to call the shelter.

Outside of the August appointment-only announcement, the shelter typically operates Tuesday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., and is located at 5055 Hallowing Point Road, Prince Frederick, MD. Anyone interested in adoptions should check the shelter’s Facebook page and website for the latest information on adoption hours, appointments and available animals.

Clear the Shelters is a nationwide effort that aims to increase animal adoptions and raise awareness for shelter animals. The 2025 effort resulted in more than 160,000 adoptions and more than $600,000 raised across the country.
