LEXINGTON PARK, MD — In a large red barn on Three Notch Road, consumers can listen to live guitar or banjo music whileย shoppingย for Southern Maryland fresh produce at the Home Grown Farmers Market, LLC.
As of June 29, the market will be open two days a week until the end of August. The peak season got a late start due to the rain, said Abby, the market manager.
โThe plants just didnโt want to grow. It was too rainy and we didnโt have the usual amount of produce to start,โ said Abby.

There is typically more business on Saturday than Wednesday, she said.
โWe have plenty to offer on both days. Itโs not just people from Lexington Park that are setting up shop here, we represent most if not all of St. Maryโs County at this market,โ ย Abby said. Almost everything can be found at the market.
โWe donโt have tomatoes today, but we will have them on Saturday. Products that are at the market today include cucumbers, jalapeรฑos, pork products, handmade bath products, ice cream, popcorn and freshly ground coffee,โ said Abby.

Homegrown Farmers Market was first founded in 2011, and provides all kinds of Southern Maryland fresh produce, flowers, plants, meats, cheeses and baked goods from March until December.
โThis market promotes sustainable agriculture, which requires economic viability, eco-friendly production techniques that preserve water and soil resources, limited transportation of food and dependence on fossil fuels, and a strong connection between the producers and the consumers,โ said Abby.
