Washington, D.C – Congressman Steny H. Hoyer (MD-5) attended the 25th Annual Maryland Teacher of the Year Gala Reception and Dinner last night to honor Maryland’s top educators.

Local teachers of the year from 24 school systems were recognized during the event and Ryan Kaiser, a 6th and 8th grade social studies teacher from The Mount Washington School in Baltimore City, was selected as the 2015-2016 Maryland Teacher of the Year from among seven finalists.

“I was honored to recognize our outstanding educators from across the state and to congratulate Ryan Kaiser on being named Maryland Teacher of the Year,” said Congressman Steny Hoyer. “Our teachers are mentors and advocates who are charged not only with imparting a curriculum but with watching over our students, and looking out for their well-being and safety.

We are so fortunate to have many of America’s greatest teachers in the state of Maryland. I thank them all for building the strong children who will lead the future of our state and our nation. I congratulate all of tonight’s awardees and thank all those who provide them the support they need to succeed.”

Mr. Kaiser will compete for the National Teacher of the Year Award which will be announced next April. He will also be honored at the White House next spring and participate in several national meetings and conferences.
