Long-time Charles County Democratic Central Committee member Gene Davies passed away in his sleep overnight. Davies was the county’s longest serving central committee member. He had recently announced his intention not to seek re-election

Davies, 85, of La Plata was a real estate agent. He graduated from Charlotte Hall Military Academy in 1946 and attended the University of Maryland and George Washington University.

On its Facebook page, the Charles County Democratic Central Committee wrote, ”Gene was a great Democrat, a great Central Committee member for years , and a great leader in our community. He will be missed by all of us. Our prayers go out to his family.”
