Douglas Lee Oliver Jr.

GREAT MILLS, Md. — On Sept. 17, 2025, around 11:30 p.m., Douglas Lee Oliver Jr., 36, of Lusby, was arrested during a traffic stop conducted by the St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office. Oliver was a passenger in a Dodge Ram pickup truck driven by a woman who allegedly failed to stop at a red light, prompting Deputy Absher to initiate a routine traffic stop.

According to charging documents, Oliver had an active arrest warrant and was ordered to exit the vehicle. When he did, a pack of cigarettes reportedly fell from his lap or pocket onto the pavement. Authorities say the pack contained two glass smoking devices with burnt ends, suggesting prior use. During a cursory search, Deputy Absher allegedly discovered a folded playing card concealed in Oliver’s right sock. Inside the card was a white powder that was field-tested and preliminarily identified as crack cocaine, a Schedule II controlled substance.

Oliver was arrested on the outstanding warrant and charged with possession of a controlled dangerous substance and possession with intent to use drug paraphernalia. Under Maryland law, possession of a controlled dangerous substance is a misdemeanor punishable by up to four years in prison and/or a fine of up to $25,000 for a first offense. Possession with intent to use drug paraphernalia is also a misdemeanor, punishable by a fine not exceeding $500 for a first violation, and up to two years in prison or a fine up to $2,000 for subsequent violations.

Court records show Oliver also faces separate charges in unrelated theft cases. On June 18, 2025, he was charged with one count of theft between $100 and under $1,500 and one count of theft scheme following an alleged theft at a Shell gas station on Three Notch Road in Lexington Park. Charging documents state that surveillance footage reportedly captured the incident. The following day, June 19, 2025, Oliver was again charged with theft between $100 and under $1,500 and theft scheme in connection with an alleged theft from Ridge Market in Ridge, Maryland, also reportedly documented by video surveillance.

Court records also indicate that on Aug. 3, 2025, deputies contacted Oliver while he was walking along South Shangri La Drive. He was found to have an active warrant and was placed under arrest without incident. A search incident to arrest allegedly revealed two glass smoking devices containing a white powdery residue, which field-tested positive for crack cocaine.

Oliver was transported to the St. Mary’s County Detention and Rehabilitation Center. His trial in the Sept. 17, 2025, case is scheduled for Oct. 21, 2025, at 1 p.m.
