Deputies Arrest 18- and 16-Year-Old Suspects in Lusby Shooting; Both Charged With Attempted Murder

LUSBY, Md. – On January 23, 2026, a jury convicted Steven Anthony Gilner, 19, of Lusby, of attempted first degree murder and related charges, following a 5-day trial in Calvert County Circuit Court.

During the trial, the State called more than 25 witnesses and introduced nearly 300 pieces of physical evidence to prove the Defendant’s guilt. 

On June 5, 2025, Gilner conspired with 2 other individuals, both juveniles, to rob an alleged drug dealer.  Gilner drove the get-away car to the scene of the robbery in Lusby and waited while his 2 accomplices  attempted the robbery.

During the incident, one of the accomplices shot the victim in the back. She survived. Gilner and his accomplices were arrested a short time later. 

Gilner’s sentencing is scheduled for March 23, 2026, before Judge Mark S. Chandlee. He is facing a  maximum sentence of life imprisonment. Both of Gilner’s accomplices pleaded guilty to attempted murder charges as adults.
