MECHANICSVILLE, Md. — A Mechanicsville man wanted on two failure-to-appear warrants faces additional drug charges after deputies allegedly found suspected crack cocaine paraphernalia while taking him into custody in Mechanicsville.
Phillip Adams, 47, of Mechanicsville was charged with possession of a controlled dangerous substance other than cannabis and possession of drug paraphernalia.
A St. Mary’s County sheriff’s deputy responded to the 28300 block of Old Lockes Hill Road at approximately 8:47 p.m. Aug. 2 to locate Adams on two outstanding warrants, according to charging documents.
The deputy reported identifying Adams through a Motor Vehicle Administration photograph and placing him under arrest.
During a search following the arrest, the deputy allegedly found a ball of rolled copper wire or Brillo in Adams’ right pants pocket and a metal socket attached to a drill extension in his left cargo pocket.
Charging documents state that rolled copper wire or Brillo is commonly used as a filter in glass smoking devices used to inhale crack cocaine. The socket and drill extension were described as items commonly used to clean such devices.
Adams was transported to the St. Mary’s County Detention and Rehabilitation Center.
He was released Aug. 3 on his own recognizance.
A trial is set for Sept. 17 at 9 a.m. in St. Mary’s District Court.
