CALIFORNIA, Md. — A California man has been charged with second-degree assault after allegedly attacking his father at their shared apartment following a domestic dispute related to a protective order, according to court records filed in St. Mary’s County.
Robert Johnson Bowles, 35, was arrested on June 18 after sheriff’s deputies responded to a call from his father, who reported that Bowles became violent at their Beechwood Court apartment shortly after police had departed from an earlier domestic incident.
According to charging documents, the elder Bowles told deputies that after the officers left, his son became upset over the possibility of a protective order being filed and flipped the bed he was sitting on, causing him to fall. He said Bowles then attempted to strike him in the head, but he blocked the punch with his forearm. Documented injuries included bruising on the inner forearm and lacerations on the elbow.
Deputies interviewed two other individuals living at the residence. One reported hearing a struggle from another room but did not witness the incident prior to police leaving the first time. The other stated he had not seen or heard anything. Although the bedroom appeared orderly when deputies arrived, the victim explained he had reassembled the bed before calling police.
Based on the visible injuries, shared living arrangement, and what was described as a continuing course of violence, Bowles was taken into custody and transported to the St. Mary’s County Detention and Rehabilitation Center.
Court records show Bowles appeared for a bond hearing on June 20 before Judge Karen Christy Holt Chesser and was released on his own recognizance. He faces one misdemeanor count of second-degree assault and is scheduled for trial on July 22 in St. Mary’s County District Court.
If convicted, Bowles faces up to 10 years in prison and a $2,500 fine.

How can a grown a*s man do that to his elderly father!? That’s absolutely disgusting. And then gets released on his own p.r to probably return and do the same stuff. Clearly this man has no regards for his own father, so maybe he needs to sit in jail and think about what he has done and get his anger under control! Then to be smiling in his mugshot like it’s cute…very disturbing!
I agree with you
