Man charged with assault after fight with hospital staff, officer

LEONARDTOWN, Md. – Cpl. Glen Knott responded to MedStar St. Mary’s Hospital in Leonardtown for the report of a disturbance on June 28, 2018.

Hospital staff advised that Michael Douglas Mackenzie, 23, of Mechanicsville was yelling and throwing things in his hospital room. Mackenzie later charged a security guard, pushing the victim in the stomach and chest areas. Mackenzie then kicked Deputy Carl Ball in the chest area and kicked Knott in the left leg. After a brief struggle, Mackenzie was pushed back onto his bed, arrested, transported to the St. Mary’s County Detention and Rehabilitation Center and charged with two counts of Second-Degree Assault Law Enforcement and two counts of Second-Degree Assault.
