Largo, MD — A 42-year-old Washington, D.C. man is dead after apparently being hit by a car early Monday morning.

Around 4:20 a.m., Maryland State Police responded to a report of a man lying in the road at westbound Central Avenue (MD 214) at Mill Ponds Drive in Largo.

When troopers from the Maryland State Police Forestville Barrack arrived on the scene, they found James Lewis, Jr. lying in the roadway.

Lewis was declared deceased at the scene. The Maryland State Police Crash Team are working to determine his identity and when the accident happened.

The victim was transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Baltimore for autopsy.

Route 214 at the scene of the incident was closed in both directions for more than four hours before reopening at about 9 a.m.
