Man Kidnaps Woman Claiming to be His Wife

On Nov. 24, Deputy First Class Robert Gill responded to the PNC Bank in Mechanicsville for a report of a forgery. 

Michael H. Williams, 43 of Waldorf, entered the bank with a female who Williams identified as his wife to obtain a loan.  Williams signed some loan documents but the female subject refused.  Williams then signed his wife’s name which was not accepted by the bank.  He was informed by bank staff his wife was required to sign the document.  Williams left the bank returning a few hours later with a different woman who he identified as his wife. Bank staff became suspicious and called police. 

Dfc Gill interviewed the women who reported she was confronted by Williams at a local business and was threatened with harm if she did not get in his car.  The women/victim complied with Williams demands and was told he wanted her to sign a check.  Williams drove the victim to the bank and represented her to be his wife.  When bank officials became suspicious and called police, Williams fled the bank.  He was located in the vicinity by Cpl Laney of the Maryland State Police and arrested. 

Williams was charged with Kidnapping, Forgery, Resisting Arrest and failing to Obey a Lawful Order.  He was released to the custody of the St. Mary’s County Detention Center pending an appearance before the District Court Commissioner.
