On Wednesday, August 22 at approximately 2:55 a.m. a witness called the Calvert Control Center to report an audible alarm coming from the Valvoline Store located at 820 North Solomons Island Road in Prince Frederick.ย  The witness further reported that she observed a silver or gray van driving out of the Valvoline storeโ€™s parking lot with its lights off and that it went south on MD Rt. 2-4.ย  This information was immediately relayed to patrol units in the Prince Frederick area.

Within seconds of the lookout being broadcasted, DFC S. Morder observed the suspect vehicle travelling south on MD Rt. 2-4 near MD Rt. 231 in Prince Frederick and pursued it.ย  The vehicle, a silver 2005 Ford E-150 XLT Super Duty van had only the driver in it.ย  DFC Morder initiated a traffic stop and the driver pulled onto Duke Street and brought the Ford van to a stop.ย ย  DFC Morder made contact with the driver who was identified as Stephen Randolph Kent, 41 of District Heights, also known as Stephen Randall Kent.ย  At this same time, responding units to the Valvoline Store confirmed that a burglary had occurred.ย  Sergeant B. McCourt, while assisting DFC Morder, observed that the ignition system to the van Kent was driving had been destroyed.ย  MVA inquiries determined that Kentโ€™s privilege to drive was both suspended and revoked.ย ย  Kent was taken into custody and transported to the Sheriffโ€™s Office for further investigation.ย 

The Calvert Investigative Team responded to the Valvoline store and evaluated the crime scene.ย  A Valvoline manager responded and confirmed that the suspect had gained entry into the office of the Valvoline store and had attempted to steal the businessโ€™s safe.ย  While Detective Rich was conducting the burglary investigation, Sergeant S. Roach of MSP contacted the registered owner of the 2005 Ford van who advised that the van is his property and he uses it for his company located in District Heights.ย  The owner confirmed that the van was stolen.ย
