Douglas B. Mason
California, MD— On May 18, St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Schultz responded to the Walmart located at Miramar Way in California for a reported theft.
When Schultz arrived on the scene, contact was made with the Walmart employee. The employee advised a male wearing a white hoodie who the employee knew as Douglas B. Mason, 31, of Lexington Park, “was traversing the establishment with a television in hand. Mason was walking towards the exit when Mason and the employee made eye contact,” according to charging documents.
The employee advised he knew Mason due to previous thefts of televisions from the store. While Schultz was talking to the employee, he was made aware that Mason had two active arrest warrants.
Mason was located walking through the Walmart parking lot, at which time he was placed under arrest. A search was conducted in which “a burnt and bent metal spoon was found in Mason’s pocket” as well as “a hypodermic needle containing a pink residue,” according to charging documents.
Mason was read his Miranda Rights; Mason admitted to using the spoon in the preparation of a controlled dangerous substance (CDS).
Mason was transported to the St. Mary’s County Detention Center, where he was charged with CDS possession and two counts of possession of CDS paraphernalia.
Mason has a hearing scheduled for July 5 in District Court. Mason faces a maximum jail sentence of four years and/or a maximum fine of $26,000.
