Leonardtown, MD— On June 13, St. Mary’s County Circuit Court Judge Michael Stamm sentenced Johnnie W. Raines, 39, of Lusby, to 12 years backup time for violating his probation.
Raines admitted that he tested positive for cocaine, and was not successful in passing a treatment program that was part of his sentencing.
Raines’ attorney Shane Mattingly stated, “He (Raines) has a job, and that a couple of things have happened to him that led to his relapse.”ย
Raines’s probation agent said the only issue that Raines had was testing positive for cocaine and not passing his treatment program. However, Raines has not had any criminal issues since being incarcerated in 2008 for first-degree burglary.ย
Stamm asked Raines if there were anything he would like to say before he imposed a sentence. Raines replied, “In all honesty, you [Stamm] saved my life when you sentenced me initially. I am at the mercyย of the court.” ย
Stamm told Raines that he received a break in 2008 when he was convicted of first-degree burglary. Stamm proceeded to sentenceย Raines to all of his backup time.ย
Raines was sentenced to 12 years in the Department of Corrections with 154 days of credit.ย
