4:30 p.m. report from Maryland State Fire Marshal’s Office
Waldorf, MD – Deputy State Fire Marshals are continuing an investigation into the origin and cause of a dwelling fire that caused life-threatening smoke inhalation injuries to the adult male homeowner.ย
The 6:59 a.m. blaze at 13311 Poplar Hill Road in Waldorf was reported by both the private alarm company and a passerby.ย Approximately 35 first responders from Waldorf, Hughesville and the Prince George’s County fire departments quickly controlled the fire and removed the unconscious victim, Donald Henderson, 61, from a second floor bedroom to a waiting ambulance. Henderson was transported to the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center for treatment of his injuries where he is currently in critical condition.
Damage to the two-story split level dwelling is estimated at $170,000 for the structure and contents. Smoke alarms were determined to be present and operating at the time of the fire. No other injuries were reported during the incident.
9:15 a.m. update
Waldorf, MD – Charles County authorities reported one person was removed from a burning house Wednesday morning, Nov. 30. No word on the unidentified person’s condition. The fire on Poplar Hill Road is under investigation.
7:47 a.m. update
Waldorf, MD – Responders to a house fire on Poplar Hill Road in Waldorf are reporting that they have the blaze under control. The road remains closed to traffic at this time due to the heavy presence of firefighting apparatus.
There are reports from sources at the scene of at least one injury as a result of the fire, which was reported shortly after 7 a.m.
ย Waldorf, MD – Charles County authorities reported at 7:20 a.m. that crews have been dispatched to a house fire in the 13000 block of Poplar Hill Road. Motorists should avoid the area until further notice.
There are reports a person may be injured.
