BOWIE, Md. – Playing Maryland Lottery games is a weekly occurrence for a marine technician from Bowie. Although he has won small prizes, the Lottery fan hadnโt enjoyed a five-figure win until he bought a quick-pick ticket for the Jan. 8ย Bonus Match 5ย drawing. He won the gameโs $50,000 top prize!
The 63-year-old found his lucky $2 ticket at Shoppers #2383, which is located at 10501 Martin Luther King Jr. Highway in Bowie. The second game board on the ticket that he bought the day of the drawing matched the winning numbers of 5, 6, 10, 29 and 36. The Prince Georgeโs County resident didnโt know this, however, because he didnโt check his ticket until he returned to the store a few weeks later.
Initially, he was confused by the ticket scannerโs message that instructed him to โSee the lottery.โ Once the grocery clerk explained what the message meant, the playerโs excitement grew. โI was surprised, Iโve never won that much before,โ the lucky player said.
The winner has only shared his great news with family members. A marine technician for 40 years, he plans to use his prize for his daughtersโ college expenses.
Shoppers #2383 also benefits from his big win. For its role in selling a $50,000 top-prize winning Bonus Match 5 ticket, the Prince Georgeโs County grocery will receive a $500 bonus from the Lottery.
