ย Maryland begins here! ย All are invited to participate in the annual Maryland Day observance at St. Clementโ€™s Island Museum in Coltonโ€™s Point, Maryland on Friday, March 25, 2011, at 11 a.m.

Commemorate Marylandโ€™s first colonial landing at St. Clementโ€™s Island on March 25, 1634. ย Two English ships – The Ark and The Dove – sailed up the Chesapeake Bay and the Potomac River to land at St. Clementโ€™s Island. ย The adventurers aboard established the colony of Maryland. ย There will be remarks by the St. Maryโ€™s County Board of County Commissioners as well as a keynote address by Dr. Bradley Gottfried, President, College of Southern Maryland and a published author on United States history.
The event will take place on the lawn of the museum. As this is an outdoor event, please dress for the weather. ย In the event of rain, high wind or an extreme low temperature the program will be moved inside the museum and space will be very limited. ย The museum and grounds are handicap accessible and admission is free. The Maryland Day program is brought to you by the Museum Division of St. Maryโ€™s County Department of Recreation and Parks, Friends of the St. Clementโ€™s Island and Piney Point Museums, and the St. Maryโ€™s County Board of County Commissioners.

For more information about the event call the St. Clementโ€™s Island Museum at (301) 769-2222. For more information about the St. Clementโ€™s Island Museum, Museum Division programs and events, and Maryland history, log on to www.stmarysmd.com/recreate/museums.ย
