CHARLOTTE HALL, Md. — A recent visit from Maryland’s top veterans official turned into a celebration of compassion and community at Charlotte Hall Veterans Home, where a staff member known for bringing energy and connection to residents was recognized for her work supporting local veterans.
Maryland Department of Veterans and Military Families Secretary Edward C. “Ed” Rothstein visited the St. Mary’s County facility to recognize Liz Peksa, Assisted Living Activities Director, following her selection as PruittHealth’s Activity Partner of the Month.
The recognition highlights Peksa’s daily work creating meaningful programs and activities designed to keep veteran residents engaged, active and connected.
Facility officials said the honor reflects not just one achievement, but the impact of consistent dedication to improving quality of life for the veterans who call Charlotte Hall home.
Peksa was recognized by PruittHealth for her dedication, creativity and commitment to residents through the activities program, which plays a key role in supporting both the emotional and social well-being of residents.

The Maryland Department of Veterans and Military Families also publicly recognized her efforts following the visit.
“Congratulations to Liz on this well-deserved recognition! Your dedication and compassion truly make a difference in the lives of the residents at Charlotte Hall Veterans Home,” the department said in a March 28, 2026, social media post. “Thank you as well to the entire staff who care for our veterans every day and continue to put service first. Your commitment reflects the respect and honor our residents deserve.”

Charlotte Hall Veterans Home is Maryland’s only state-operated veterans home and provides assisted living, skilled nursing and memory care services to eligible veterans and their spouses. According to the facility, the campus has served Maryland veterans since 1985 and sits on approximately 126 acres in St. Mary’s County.
The facility operates through the Maryland Department of Veterans and Military Families in partnership with PruittHealth and serves as a key long-term care resource for Southern Maryland’s veteran community.
Officials said recognitions like Peksa’s highlight the teamwork behind the scenes, where staff members work daily to ensure residents receive not only medical care, but opportunities for social connection, recreation and enrichment.

New Online Resource Expands Support For Maryland Veterans
As part of its broader efforts to support Maryland veterans, the department announced March 20, 2026, the launch of a redesigned website aimed at improving access to benefits, programs and services for veterans, service members and their families. The department said the updated website includes improved navigation, accessibility upgrades and security improvements designed to provide a more reliable user experience.
