shed fire in southern maryland

MECHANICSVILLE, Md. — Firefighters contained a shed fire Thursday afternoon in the 40700 block of King Drive after initial 911 reports indicated the blaze was spreading rapidly.

Crews were dispatched at about 4:33 p.m. Oct. 23 to 40730 King Drive and arrived to find a 25-by-25-foot shed on fire, with extension into nearby woods for roughly 50 feet.

Despite early calls warning of fast-moving flames, firefighters on scene reported the fire was not rapidly spreading.

By 5:10 p.m., the fire was brought under control, and crews continued mopping up hot spots in the area.

No injuries were immediately reported. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
