MECHANICSVILLE, Md. – A crash on Golden Beach Road in Mechanicsville backed up traffic and took out power to over 1200 residents.

A white pickup crashed into a utility pole around 6:30 pm on Monday evening. The impact split the pole in two and brought power lines crashing to the ground.

Squad 2 and Rescue Engine 22 from the Mechanicsville Volunteer Fire Department responded to the scene.

The Southern Maryland Electrical Cooperative said that 1,274 customers lost power as a result of the outage.

While the power lines took a beating, the driver of the truck was well enough to refuse medical care from the Mechanicsville Volunteer Fire Department.
