MECHANICSVILLE, Md. – On Thursday, November 9th, 2023, Mechanicville Elementary School will host their Annual Veteran’s Day Celebration.
Starting at 10 a.m., all grade levels will have the chance to honor those who have served and their families for their selfless acts and hardships that may come. The event is open to the Mechanicsville armed services members and their families.
The Veterans Day event is a tradition for the Mechanicsville School. Allison Kerr, a teacher and one of the leaders of the event told The BayNet, “When I first started Mechanicsville in 2015 the veterans tribute was already an established event. I quickly realized what a wonderful community event this is, and how excited our students are each year.”

The day is to feature a number of different performances both musical and theatrical put on by the students themselves, an indoor parade, and a luncheon for veterans and their families to follow afterward. Kerr also states, “We now have students creating a short theatrical film, greeting our veterans and guests and ushering them to their seats, students serving as masters of ceremonies are narrating the event.”
This event is something that the kids of Mechanicsville Elementary look forward to each year, Ms.Yvonne Patton stated, “When I sat down with my students and discussed our veterans coming to visit, they were so excited and immediately jumped into conversations, eager to share their thoughts.”

Whether taking part in this Veterans Day event or having one of your own, make sure to thank your fellow members of service for their tireless efforts for this country every day.
