On a recent visit with Baynet Radio and TheBAYNET.com, Republican candidate for State Senate from Charles County, Jay Bala outlined his candidacy, campaign and his stand on a number of issues facing voters in Charles County in the coming term.
โI really feel itโs time for a change here in Maryland. The incumbent has had 20 years in office โ as County Commissioner President and State Senator and the situation is worse than ever. There are major Issues in Maryland which need to be addressed,โ said Bala.
The two-time candidate feels that every effort should be made to create jobs and to stimulate the economy. Bala stated that the State must compete for employers just like corporations compete in the market place. โHow does Toyota compete against GM? We should do the same and not punish companies that want to do business in Maryland.โ
When asked about the financial situation for the State, Bala said, โIn these hard times, if we are asked to live within our means, we should ask our government to live within its means and not off the back of its citizens whom itโs trying to serve.โ
As part of the effort to recruit business to the area, Bala feels that the infrastructure โ roads and transportation concerns are something necessary to address in the short-term as part of that effort. โIt is not only necessary to attract businesses, but at the moment most people in Southern Maryland commute out of the area and itโs not fair to them to not have the transportation infrastructure available to them.โ
Bala stated that the Harry Nice Bridge which connects Charles to Virginia needs to be upgraded immediately. โIf Washington is attacked, how are people to get away from the area? The Nice Bridge needs to be expanded not only for ease of commute, but for national security reasons,โ said Bala.
In his effort to unseat current incumbent, โMacโ Middleton, Bala stated that in Nov. of 2006, 34.7 percent of voters placed their trust in him โThat is very humbling, to say the least. In due time, I will prove them right! That was an anti-Bush year and the trend wound up knocking me down, now, four years later, I am running for the same office and plan to be able to work for voters and taxpayers when I win.โ
Bala stated that in Maryland and around the country, that small businesses are the backbone of the economy. โWe need to bring sustainable jobs and economic growth that we desperately need and it is one of the components of the Liberty citizens seek.โ.
The medical management and high-tech consultant feels very strongly about the need for better education for Charles Countyโs children. โIn order to create a brighter future for Maryland we must better educate our children.
Bala, a naturalized citizen, feels that English should be the official language in Maryland and in the US. โWe canโt force the Federal government to adopt that, but if all 50 states adopted English as their official language we would have it with the Federal Governmentโs involvement.
He is also is a staunch constitutionalist. โItโs the best we have, itโs our first and our last resort,โ said Bala.
He feels that Maryland has a great many potentials. โItโs a reflection of the United States in miniature,โ said Bala. The candidate is a self-described Theodore Roosevelt conservative when it comes to politics and his style of governance and a Jeffersonia
