During the Memorial Day Weekend May 23-26, the Maryland State Police, La Plata Barrack Troopers will be supplying the heat to kick off the summer time activities. Troopers will be taking a proactive approach to reduce crimes and traffic related collisions in Charles County throughout the holiday weekend.
This initiative will be pro-active in that all personnel will be actively involved in the enforcement and reduction of criminal activity and traffic enforcement to aggressively reduce the amount of crimes and traffic related collisions in Charles County during the Memorial Day Weekend.
The Memorial Day weekend will begin for Troopers at 7 a.m. May 23, with an initiative dubbed “All Troops 10-8” (10-8 is the 10 code for In Service). Every Trooper assigned to the La Plata Barrack will be working in three different shifts throughout the day.
In addition there will be Troopers from the Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Division and Special Operations Division. The mission for this initiative is to reduce crimes, reduce accidents and prevent fatal collisions.
In addition to regular patrol duties the Troopers assigned to Charles County will participate in DUI Saturation Patrols, Sobriety Check Points, Speed Enforcement Teams, Criminal Interdiction Teams, Enforcement of Commercial Vehicle Violations and Seat Belt Stopping Teams. Throughout the Memorial Day Weekend Troopers will also utilize Federal Grant monies to combat DUI violations and aggressive drivers.
