An ad-hoc memorial has been established for the 17-month old boy who died Wednesday at Patuxent River Naval Air Station after being left in his father’s car all day. The small makeshift memorial has been set up in the back of the 2187 parking lot where the child died. Employees have left flowers, cards and toys.
The father, John McDonald Junek, 40, of Leonardtown has been charged by federal authorities with involuntary manslaughter. He appeared in U.S. District Court for Maryland in Greenbelt on Thursday and a judge authorized his release to his parents’ custody pending a preliminary hearing on September 25.
