LA PLATA, Md. — A man was killed Wednesday afternoon, June 25, following a collision between a motorcycle and a car at the intersection of Rosewick Road and Washington Avenue in La Plata, prompting a full roadway shutdown and emergency response.
The crash occurred just after 3:15 p.m. Initial callers reported the motorcyclist, described as unconscious and possibly experiencing agonal breathing, was in critical condition. CPR was initiated at the scene by first-arriving La Plata Police Department officers.
Emergency crews initially requested a medevac helicopter, but it was later canceled. The patient was transported by ground to the University of Maryland Charles Regional Medical Center under trauma code protocol. Despite lifesaving efforts, the motorcyclist was later pronounced deceased at the hospital.
According to an updated statement from the La Plata Police Department, the preliminary investigation determined that a 2008 Ford Focus, operated by an 82-year-old La Plata woman, failed to yield the right of way to a 2022 Kawasaki ZX636 motorcycle. The motorcycle was being ridden by a 42-year-old man, also from La Plata. Police said neither speed nor alcohol were contributing factors in the crash.
The intersection was closed in all directions as investigators and crash reconstruction teams worked the scene. Traffic was diverted while crews documented evidence and cleared the roadway.
Authorities have not released the identities of those involved. The investigation remains ongoing.
Anyone who witnessed the collision or has information is asked to contact Corporal Kalen Kerere of the La Plata Police Department at 301-934-1500 or kkerere@townoflaplata.org.

There have been far too many motorcyclists killed in unnecessary accidents every year
either by another motorists or by faults of the their own. I feel there should be a
crack down on the rules and motorists when approaching each other from any direction. My sympathy goes out to
both the parties family and friends 🧡 of those involved.
I get that Grace
but this wasn’t the case
The 82 year old woman was at fault
and failed to yield (shouldn’t been driving)
Speeding / reckless driving wasn’t the factor of motorcyclist
Why should the 82 year old not been driving? Lots of accidents and deaths are caused by failure to yield no matter age.
