A speeding motorcycle rider crashed into an SUV attempting to make a turn in the morning hours of June 22 on Rt. 5 in Hughesville near Homeland Drive.
The rider, Marcus D. Wallace, of Severn, was thrown from the motorcycle, but the bike continued to travel more than 50 yards and crashed through a cinderblock wall of a business.
Charles County Sheriffโs Sgt. Roberson told The Bay Net the report from the crash states Wallace was traveling in excess of the 40 mph speed limit. Roberson conceded the bike must have been traveling much faster than 40 mph for it to crash through a wall and explode.
Hughesville Deputy Fire Chief Scott Herbert reports rescue crews arrived to find a two story building on fire and a man lying on the ground in front of building.
The motorcycle had gone through a cinderblock wall, into the office area of the business known as Guardian Pest Control, and burst into flames, causing fire and smoke damage throughout.
The chief in command requested a helicopter for the driver of the bike, who was treated, packaged and transferred to the helicopter which transported the patient to the Prince Georges County trauma center. Roberson said Wallace’s injuries were serious, but not life threatening.
The driver of the Ford Explorer struck by the motorcycle, Carolyn Brooks, of Lexington Park, was not injured.
