Tyrus Brown

Annapolis, MD – On Thursday, Aug. 20, Annapolis Police Department detectives, with the help of the Maryland State Police (MSP) Fugitive Task Force and the U.S. Marshals Service arrested a third suspectโ€”identified as Tyrus Brown, 27 of Annapolis, in the 2013 killing of Calvert County resident John Ray.ย  On March 16 and 18 of 2014 Tahzay Brown, 24, of Glen Burnie and Todd Brown, 25, of Annapolis were arrested for their roles in the same crime. They are currently awaiting trial.


On April 21, 2013 officers responded to the 200 block of Victor Parkway for a report of a possible shooting. Officers found John Ray, 32, of Huntingtown in a vehicle.ย  John Ray was shot and pronounced dead at the scene. Through investigation Annapolis Police Department detectives determined that Tahzay Brown and Todd Brown were responsible for the murder of John Ray. Detectives continued the investigation after the arrests of Tahzay and Todd Brown and discovered that Tyrus Brown also played a role in Rayโ€™s murder.ย 

This past June 17, an arrest warrant was issued for Tyrus Brown.

โ€œThis arrest was the result of relentless investigation and excellent teamwork,โ€ said Police Chief Michael Pristoop.ย  โ€œThere was solid work by detectives, and now we are hopeful justice will be served in criminal court.โ€

Tyrus Brown was charged with first and second degree murder and 18 other criminal counts relating to the murder. Tyrus Brown is being held at the Jennifer Road Detention Center pending a bond hearing.
