Solomons, MD – They are feared by anyone who goes near the water these days. However, not all sharks are out to get us. In fact, sharks come in all kinds of sizes and some of them may be softly touched. On Saturday, July 11 the occasional celebration known as Sharkfest was held at Calvert Marine Museum (CMM) in Solomons.
Museum visitors observed live creaturesโa baby California horn shark, a pair of chain dogfish and some Atlantic sturgeon at the makeshift aquariums set up at CMMโs Corbin Pavilion.
During the seven-hour event there were many other shark related exhibits for visitors. Films about sharks were shown in Harms Gallery. Local experts displaying collections of sharksโ teeth and fossils explained the history of sharks and the Chesapeake Bay.
In addition to museum tours and pavilion exhibit, attendees enjoyed two live performances by Rocknoceros, a trio from Fairfax, VA. The group has entertained audiences all over the country. Rocknocerosโ performances were sponsored by the PNC Foundation.
Coming up Friday, Aug. 7, CMM presents First Free Friday. The Groove Span Trio will perform from 6 to 7:30 p.m. on the PNC Waterside Pavilion stage. Visitors may also enjoy a free 30 minute cruise aboard the Wm.B. Tennison.
