ย Lt. Daniel Alioto, commander of the St Mary’s County BCI Vice Narcotics Division, reports that detectives busted a man Thursday night in connection with 17 pounds of marijuana ready for distribution in St. Maryโ€™s County.

ย Detectives previously received information that Terrence Mason, 43, was involved in the transportation and possible distribution of a large quantity of marijuana.

ย On March 27, detectives located and detained Mason, who was found to be connected to more than 17 pounds of marijuana, Alioto reports.

ย Alioto told The Bay Net on Friday morning that police seized the 17 pounds of marijuana, but refused to specify further, due to the investigation, whether Mason was actually in possession of all the marijuana.

ย The marijuana had a street value of more than $50,000.

ย Mason was arrested and transported to the St. Mary’s County Detention Center. This case is an open investigation, and additional charges and arrests are pending a Stateโ€™s Attorneyโ€™s Office Review, Alioto said.

โ€œFor us, this is a successful operation because a lot of this marijuana was destined for St. Maryโ€™s County,โ€ Alioto said. โ€œThis was not a drop-off, or pass-through โ€ฆ it was headed to Mechanicsville and Lexington Park.

โ€œWe do anticipate additional changes (for Mason) and two additional arrests in connection with this case,โ€ Alioto continued.

ย According to Maryland court records, Mason, whoโ€™s last known address is Lusby, has already been charged with possession of marijuana, and possession of a controlled dangerous substance-not marijuana.

Alioto said the additional โ€œnon-marijuanaโ€ charge was a result of finding a coke-smoking device on Mason at the time of arrest.

โ€œWe collected some great information with this one,โ€ Alioto said. โ€œChalk one up for the good guys.โ€
