For the next two days, Friday, May 6 and Saturday, May 7, 2011 Command Master Chief Mark Cummings and Don Parsons, Executive Director of Patuxent Habitat for Humanity will lead many volunteers in the initial building phase of Chiefs Build, for a new home at 21859 Milton Lane, Lexington Park, MD.ย  The โ€œBlitz Buildโ€ is an exciting event to erect the house frame in just 2 days.ย  Many volunteers will join together to turn rough cut studs and joists into walls, floors and a roof.ย  In the event of inclement weather, work will be continued on May 13 and 14.ย  Construction to complete the home will continue on the site though most of the summer.ย 

The building projects are named Chiefs Build due to the sponsorship of the Chief Petty Officers of Pax River NAS.ย  Command Master Chief Cummings invited active duty and retired Chief Petty Officers to participate in the building of this home.ย  Approximately 100 Chiefs have already signed up to volunteer or lead some aspect of the build.ย  It was only a few weeks ago, on April 12, that Chiefs Build held a Ground Breaking Ceremony for this new home.

The Blitz Build schedule begins at 8:40AM on Friday May 6th and at 7:45AM on Saturday May 7th.ย  A lunch break will be held at 12:00 noon both days.ย  Work will end at 3:30PM each day.

Work plans include:

1.ย ย ย ย ย  Build Floor system – roll joist, lay decking, layout walls, form up for all remaining concrete flatwork

2.ย ย ย ย ย  Build walls; framing – stand any remaining walls, run all top plates, plumb and sting line and brace everything
