CALVERT COUNTY, Md. — Calvert County’s What’s Going Where page says new businesses are “warmly anticipated.” That assessment has proven true these last few months, as we saw a busy summer of store openings ranging from national chains to local boutiques. The county also welcomed several new restaurants, and county commissioners were kept busy with ribbon-cutting ceremonies.
As Calvert residents look to fall, there are still new businesses working hard to open their doors. These businesses are hoping to open their doors this October. As always, keep an eye on their websites and social media for the latest news.
Always Ice Cream, a popular local spot with locations in Anne Arundel County, is opening its first Calvert County store in Prince Frederick’s Armory Square. Always will open “hopefully” in October, according to a recent Facebook post. They also posted the link for job applications, so things are looking good for a fall opening in the near future.

Sip and Stack is a new cafe where diners can order sandwiches, salads, and drinks. According to the website, the restaurant serves food that’s “fresh, fast, and flavorful” and has gluten-free options. Sip and Stack opened its doors on Sept. 29 and is open 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., seven days a week. They’re located at 78 Solomons Island Road S in Prince Frederick, where EZThai used to be. So far, customers are loving the fast service and refreshing drinks.

Taquería Don Jose opened in mid-September at 3875 Old Town Road in Huntingtown, serving tacos and other Mexican favorites. The taquería has daily lunch specials and a bottled beverage selection. Note that they don’t have online ordering yet, so if you want to do a takeout order, you can view their menu on their website and order through a good old-fashioned phone call.

Dugan, McKissick & Longmore LLC is a Southern Maryland-based law firm. Yes, a law firm. It can’t all be restaurants! This law office had its ribbon-cutting ceremony on Sept. 26. The firm brings trusted legal expertise and client-focused service to the community, expanding its footprint to better serve residents and businesses in Calvert County. Consultations are available through their website.

First Watch is a breakfast and lunch spot that opened a nearby location in Waldorf this spring. Fans of the restaurant have been eagerly waiting for an opening date for the new Prince Frederick location. We don’t have one here, but they recently updated their website to add hours and a special VIP promotion for opening week. So fingers crossed we’ll see a firm opening date soon.
