PRINCE FREDERICK, Md. — The Arts Council of Calvert County has announced a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the new Kocen Arts Center. The event is to be held on June 10 at 4 p.m., and scholarship recipients will be present to receive awards. Three scholarship winners are set to be recognized at the ceremony, offering a chance for the Southern Maryland community to celebrate their accomplishments.

The Kocen Arts Center is located at 22 Duke Street in Prince Frederick. Its opening will allow for new arts programming in the Calvert County area, such as artistic lectures, theater rehearsals and public classes.

Programs Specialist and Marketing Coordinator of the Arts Council of Calvert County Allison Sullivan told The BayNet about how the Kocen Arts Center will transform the art scene in Southern Maryland.

“The Kocen Arts Center will serve as your new community hub for creativity, collaboration, and inspiration! Whether you’re an artist, performer, student, or someone who simply loves the arts, this space was built with YOU in mind. The center will be a place for art to come alive through workshops, art classes, theatre rehearsals, open studio times, demonstrations, and more! This will be a great benefit for our arts community, and we are looking forward to watching this program grow!”

Sullivan also shared further details about the upcoming ceremony:

“Join us as we celebrate the opening of the Kocen Arts Center! We will have a ribbon-cutting ceremony co-hosted by the Calvert County Chamber of Commerce and Calvert County Economic Development. We will also be recognizing our 2025 scholarship recipients at this event. Enjoy light refreshments as you explore the new art space and connect with local artists, arts organizations, and the Arts Council team!”

How Much Does It Cost to Rent a Room at the Kocen Arts Center?

The price of renting a room varies based on its size and an individual’s circumstances, though fees generally range from $5 to $35. Programs begin at the Kocen Arts Center as early as June 2025.

Promoting affordable spaces for up-and-coming artists helps to build stronger connections throughout the art community in Southern Maryland. The June 10 ceremony will further direct attention to the new Kocen Arts Center, which may encourage donations to the Arts Council of Calvert County.
