Hughesville, MD — A Waldorf homemaker was nearly out of words when she finally puzzled her way to a $10,000 win on a Maryland Lottery Big Play Crossword scratch-off.

The 52-year-old was relaxing one evening with a couple of the $10 instant tickets she had picked up at the Hughesville Sunoco at 8144 Leonardtown Road in Hughesville. Suddenly, she began to match several of the words on her ticketโ€™s crossword board. โ€œWhen I got to seven words, thatโ€™s when I knew I had something,โ€ she said.

The Charles County woman eventually discovered nine complete words for the win. Filled with excitement, the happy homemaker was quick to share the good news with her family. โ€œI called my niece and then my brothers,โ€ she said. Proud of her simple life, the winner plans to put all of her prize into her savings account.

There are still five $100,000 top prizes and 14 $10,000 prizes remaining on the scratch-off, which went on sale in December.
